The standard 2.5-liter hybrid generates 191 horsepower through a CVT and front-wheel drive, with available all-wheel drive. For drivers who want a little more oomph, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder cranks out 250 horsepower and pairs with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. There is a minor change for the Lobo trim in a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which adds a sportier feel and quicker gear changes.
Don’t let its size fool you—the Maverick can handle serious work. Both powertrains manage up to 1,500 pounds of payload and 2,000 pounds of towing capacity without add-ons. With the available towing package, those numbers jump to 4,000 pounds, giving you enough pull for a small trailer, boat, or camper.
Official EPA estimates aren’t out yet for the 2026 model, but you can expect numbers similar to 2025. The hybrid should get 42 mpg city, 35 highway, and 38 combined, while the gas-only turbo should average around 22 city, 30 highway, and 25 combined.
